Tutorial - Keyboard Replacement

On this page, you will find information on how to replace the keyboard of your Efika MX Smartbook.
If you need additional help, please contact us.

Step 1:
Make absolutely sure that your Efika MX Smartbook is powered down. Please unplug the power cord and remove the battery before you continue with the following steps!

Step 2:
Get either a small screwdriver or scissors and ensure that the item is smaller than the small four holes at the top border of the keyboard so there is no damage when you insert it.

Step 3:
Carefully insert your selected item into each of the holes and tilt it towards the display without touching it. By using the item as a lever, the keyboard should loosen.

Be sure to use minimum physical force so as to not damage your computer.

Step 4:
After loosening it, try to lift up the entire keyboard at its top border. You may want to use your  previously chosen item as a lever again to accomplish this.

Important: The keyboard is connected to the computer via a short cable. While it is connected, make sure that you do not put too much pressure on the cable while you move the keyboard. So, keep the keyboard close to the computer.

Step 5:
Unlock the cable connector by flipping its switch up.

Step 6:
Pull out the cable.

Step 7:
Insert the cable of your replacement keyboard.

Step 8:
Lock the cable connector by flipping its switch down.

Step 9:
Push the lower half of the keyboard into the computer case. Then, tilt the keyboard until it lies flat.

Step 10:
Push down along the borders of the keyboard until the keyboard sits perfectly flush inside your computer.

Step 11:
Connect the power cord with your Efika MX Smartbook and / or insert the battery again.

Step 12:

If you are running the Gnome desktop, which came pre-installed when you received your computer, feel free to follow these instructions to configure your software for use with a non-US keyboard:

Boot your computer. Click on the "System" menu option in the upper left corner of the screen. In the newly opened menu list, first click on "Preferences", then click on "Keyboard". Next, click on the word "Layouts" to switch to the corresponding tab. Now, click on "Add". Pick your country and keyboard variant, then confirm by clicking on "Add" in the lower right corner of the window. Your selection should now be added to the list in the "Layouts" tab below the entry that is labelled "USA". Click on the list entry you just added once and then click on the "Move Up" button to move it to the top of the list.

Congratulations. After completing these steps, you have successfully replaced the keyboard of your Efika MX Smartbook.
