Genesi Open Desktop Workstations based on the Pegasos II were used during a hands-on Linux workshop the last day of Freescale's Smart Networks Developer Forum Europe. Power Architecture, with the AltiVec SIMD engine, is an excellent alternate architecture for Linux applications, and the Genesi Pegasos II system comes equipped with the MPC7447 Power Architecture processor from Freescale and the Marvell Discovery II northbridge. (SNDF Europe).

The machines were provided with a choice of operating systems including Gentoo, Crux, Yellow Dog and Debian GNU/Linux. Also included was MorphOS, a lightweight fully featured non-UNIX based Amiga-compatible operating system. All developers who participated in the Linux workshop were given an Open Desktop Workstation.
